Battle in the Sky I

This piece depicts a Cowichan legend the artist was told about his grandmother's people.

There was a giant supernatural killer whale feeding on all of the salmon leaving none for the people. The people summoned the Thunderbird for help. A great battle took place in the sky over the Cowichan people at the mouth of the river at St. Annes. The Thunderbird had ultimate victory and the people celebrated.

In the traditional colours of red and black, David says he chose these two colours to represent the clash between good and evil.
